Biography

roc-profile
Roc Prologo, a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, received certification in commercial art from the Pittsburgh Art Institute. His vocation, however, was in computer science---a career that spanned over 45 years. During that time he continued his art, producing oil paintings as gifts to friends and family. He has studied painting in all media, but had no experience in watercolors until after his retirement.

In 2003, Roc retired and returned to his first passion, art. He hones his skills and sustains his interest in art by regularly attending watercolor workshops and classes. He has studied under the tutelage of many local and nationally-acclaimed artists, such as Barry Jeter, Tony Couch, Frederick C. Graff, Judi Wagner, Skip Lawrence, Mel Stabin, Don Andrews Linda Doll and Frank Webb. He has been recognized in several exhibits and has been accepted into many juried shows while receiving several awards in watercolor competitions. Roc has traveled and painted on location throughout Ohio, Pittsburgh and surrounding areas, the eastern seaboard (Maine to South Carolina), and internationally in Italy and France.

Roc’s art work depicts his enjoyment of painting a variety of subjects, such as still life, landscapes, and en plein air (painting outdoors). During his international travels Roc enjoys capturing the day-to-day activity of the local people in their surroundings of the towns he travels through. During his annual trips to Maine, Roc conveys his subjects by capturing the character of the lobster villages and surrounding areas at different times of the day. Roc cites painter Frederick C. Graff as a strong source of inspiration and is fascinated by his ability to relate a complete story in a single painting.

Roc's work has earned him awards by the Associate Artist of Butler County, Latrobe Art Center, and the North Hills Art Center. His paintings are currently on display in the Latrobe Art Center Gallery in Latrobe, Pennsylvania.

Roc lives in Wexford, Pennsylvania with his wife Elvira. They have three children and six grandchildren. He is an active board member of the Pittsburgh Watercolor Society, The Associated Artists of Butler County, The Hoyt Institute of Fine Arts, The Hoyt Artist Association, The North Hills Art Center, The Pennsylvania Watercolor Society, The Latrobe Art Center and The Associated Artists of Pittsburgh.
